Heirloom Teapot 9" x 12" Oil on Canvas SOLD
This is an Apollo silver teapot passed down to us from my wife's relatives, circa 1910-1920. I wanted to try a still life because I've never really done one before and there are a lot of really interesting still life paintings by modern artists on the web today. Still life seems to no longer be confined to traditional feminine settings of roses in vases on tablecloth. Any object or part of can be the subject of a still life and it's neat to see how artists interpret & execute even the most mundane objects and make them visually exciting.
THE MERMAID'S DOWRY 24" x 12", Oil on Canvas
The title for this painting came to me after reviewing some tidepool shots I took 3 months ago at Laguna Beach. One picture caught my attention and I knew I just had to paint it; A scattering of shells beside one round, smooth rock that reminded me of an underwater cornucopia, or a roadside memorial, or a mermaid's dowry.
