THE MERMAID'S DOWRY 24" x 12", Oil on Canvas
The title for this painting came to me after reviewing some tidepool shots I took 3 months ago at Laguna Beach. One picture caught my attention and I knew I just had to paint it; A scattering of shells beside one round, smooth rock that reminded me of an underwater cornucopia, or a roadside memorial, or a mermaid's dowry.

About Me
Manny
I’ve always loved art. As a child I often drew pictures on used grocery bags when scraps of paper were no where to be found. I was consumed with art during my formative years. Later in life when I faced adulthood I abandoned art for while, and sought other pursuits like making a living. I didn’t think I could make a living as an artist, an illustrator or a designer. The starving artist cliché was all I knew about being an artist, so I didn’t pursued art professionally. But I always found myself needing to create something. I wasted quite a few years in dead end jobs and dead end college courses devoid of art and creativity. Eventually I became a graphic designer. I returned to painting in my spare time and discovered that my God given talent was still there. I also discovered I wasn’t as good at it as I thought. And so I began a new journey down an old path. A little more humble this time, a little more open to criticism and learning, and a realization that this journey never ends for one who dares to call himself an artist. I'm a Christian, conservative, married with 3 grand kids. I love Jesus my Lord, family and the USA, art, science, literature,.
